Sacred Songs of the Church

Sacred Songs of the Church, compiled and edited by W.D. Jeffcoat, has been designed to be an outstanding hymnal in every way. Durable and attractive, it will consist of the best binding available. Smyth sewn rather than adhesive binding will insure that it will be of lasting quality. The most durable and highest grade of paper will be utilized along with the best typography available, which will exhibit uniformity and attractiveness throughout the book. The text or lyrics and notation will be larger and legible in every way. Approximately nine hundred song books have been examined in making selections for the book which will consist of nine-hundred-forty-six scripturally reliable songs. Shaped notation will be used and the scoring of each song will be simple to read. Three cover colors: burgundy, blue, and basil green will be available along with a Director’s Edition in black bonded leather with gold gilding of the page edges, and will also be suitable for gift or memorial purposes. Ribbon markers will match the various colors along with page edge staining. When known, the dates of a composer’s and/or author’s birth and death will be listed. The hymnal, which has been designed for congregational worship, will contain a well-balanced variety of hymns and gospel songs. Many old songs of worth will be included along with several new compositions of merit. Songs emphasizing numerous themes will characterize the book. Many of the songs will express praise to God, love for the Lord’s church, respect for God’s word, and the need for spirituality and consecration to Christ. A section will be included titled “Christian Worship in Song” with appropriate indices including an index of composers, authors, and translators; a topical index; and an index arranged using first lines and titles. It is expected that Sacred Songs of the Church will serve as a tool to magnify God and serve God’s people in worshipful song for many years to come.
